There is a common belief today that ‘God is God’ and no matter what religion we follow, we all worship the same God. People who believe this, claim that although God has many different names or expressions, ultimately there is one great universal consciousness. In other words, the famous misconception that ‘all roads lead to Rome’, which they clearly don’t.
There are many, many belief systems and world views on the earth today, including Secular Humanism, Evolution, and all kinds of idol worship as well as the cult of personality and celebrity. Not all of these claim to be God. Atheists say there is no God and use evolution to back up their disbelief in a divine creator.
Then there are the ‘People of the Book’, a collective term for Christians, Jews and Muslims, who have a written code of conduct, the Bible / Koran. Though very different, could these three religions worship the same God?
When it comes to the Judeo-Christian God, Jehovah or YHWH, we do worship the same Heavenly Father. However, as Christians, we have a fuller understanding of Him as we acknowledge the long-awaited Messiah has come. That He died to save us and has left us with the precious Holy Spirit to indwell us as a deposit of the Heavenly realm to come.
Now, when it comes to Jehovah and Allah there is no such similarity. It’s not just a question of translation. One is the Light of the World, the other is characterised by the light of the Moon, which is limited at best.
You may have heard of the term ‘Chrislam’ where Christians and Muslims come together to find common ground. After all, Islam acknowledges Jesus as a Prophet. In this way of thinking, Allah is simply Arabic for the word God. Similarly, you could claim that any one of the many Hindu gods are all God. However, let us not be confused by which God we serve.
Islam separates itself from the God of the Bible, which it says is polytheistic. In other words, a deity comprised of multiple deities. Muslims take pride in worshipping ‘one true God’. This sets it at odds with Hinduism which has millions of Gods. They serve ‘the moon God’, Allah which is a critical defining factor,
So how do we ensure are worship the right God? What does Biblical Christianity teach us? Let’s consider this, especially as we witness a growing trend towards a coming one-world religion that aims to force everyone to worship the same God.
There is only one true God, the God of the Bible. Jewish people pray to Hashem (‘the name’) or Adonai which means Lord. This is Jehovah. He has many names in the Scriptures, each of which represents a specific facet of His goodness. From Jehovah Shalom, the God of Peace to Jehovah Nissi, the Lord our Conqueror to name just two.
This is the same God we believe in as Christians, hence the term, the Judeo-Christian ethic. But the Christian Bible has two testaments. The New Testament introduces the concept of the Triune God – God who is three in one ie God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Also known as the Trinity.
This is the unique, unmistakable God we as Christians serve and although some people battle to understand the concept of one God in three persons, it is very simple. Consider this example to explain this union. Water, ice and steam are all water, though in different forms – liquid, solid and gas. In the same way we serve one God in three persons.
Firstly God is our Father, our daddy or Abba in Hebrew. Jesus is His Son and our Lord and Saviour. And we also have the Holy Spirit who lives within us as a deposit of God in our lives.
Does Allah dwell within anyone? No, but Jesus does by the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus is God. So be sure when you pray, that you are talking to the right God – the God who answers by fire, not some idol or fallen angel who cannot answer. Or a demonic entity that means you more harm than good.
Call on the God of the Bible. The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The God of Israel and the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. To make sure, pray only to the same God the many characters of the Bible prayed to, the God of Jacob, Moses, David and Mary and us as believers today. Listen to this beautiful song by Elevation Worship entitled, The Same God and be blessed by the revelation it contains.
The Same God – Elevation Worship
We don’t worship the sun, moon or stars. We worship the Ceator of all things. Not a sun god or moon god but the Creator of these sources of light. You can’t go wrong worshipping the Creator, not the creation or some kind of universal creative consciousness.
Jesus said: “I am the way the truth and the life. Nobody comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6)
There is no god to be found in evolution, save the God of atheism. How can we say atheism has a god? Because it takes just as much faith to believe in nothing as to believe in something.
We are all born with a God-shaped vacuum ready to be filled by something, whether it is lustful pleasures or misguided religious devotion. Make sure you fill your inner vacuum with Jesus. He is the only way to God because He is God.
Allah or any other idol is not the same God as Jehovah nor ever will be. Only the God of the Bible is the one true God, as expressed in both Old and New Testaments.
Serve the same God as the heroes of the Bible
Yes the God of the Bible is the same God today, as He always has been, bringing healing then, and still curing people now, setting captives free then and bringing liberty to all who are in chains today, answering prayers back then and answering prayers right now. He is the Rock of Ages, who never fails to keep His promises.
He is the God of Jacob, Moses, Mary, David and the same God we as believers in Jesus Christ follow today. He has promised He will never change, Jesus is the same, yesterday, today and forever. Ensure you are not short-changed in your spiritual experience. Make a decision to embrace the One True God today and live a life forever changed.
Then start reading the Bible and discover the truth contained in it. And join a fellowship of authentic believers. Beware of the many cults who say they believe in the God of the Bible but don’t really, For example the Mormons and Jehovah’s Witnesses who preach another Gospel than the one presented in the Scriptures. Beware of any so-called Christian denomination that has an ‘add-on book’ they regard as Scripture, like the Book of Mormon which leads people into deception.
